6/6/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Finance Committee meets tomorrow to consider several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, June 7 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5:15 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House to consider several bills.

Among the legislation being considered are the following bills:
  • 2023-H 5519, sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), allows state employees the ability to make an after tax contribution to a qualified Roth contribution program as a part of a deferred compensation plan.
  • 2023-H 5619, sponsored by Rep. Alex S. Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown), amends the reimbursements to cities, towns and fire districts from state revenues for lost tax revenue due to any phase-out or reduction of the motor vehicle excise tax.
  • 2023-H 5801A, sponsored by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), adds "national touring production" to the productions that are considered an "accredited theater production" for purposes of musical and theatrical production tax credits and extends the sunset of the credits to July 1 2027.
  • 2023-H 5979, sponsored by Rep. Scott A. Slater (D-Dist. 10, Providence), makes statutory amendments throughout several sections of the General Laws relating to the Department of Revenue changing the references of "collection unit" to "central collections unit."
  • 2023-H 5981, sponsored by Representative Slater, provides that the sale of cannabis be exempt from taxation relating to taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products.
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen by Cox Communications subscribers on channels 15 and 61 for high definition, on channel 15 by i3Broadband viewers, and channel 34 for Verizon subscribers.
