Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee to consider variety of bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets Thursday to vote on a variety of bills and hold hearings on bills, including some to increase transparency and integrity throughout the healthcare system.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, May 28, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on several bills, including:

2026-H 8402 — Sponsored by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist.75, Newport), this bill would establish the Permanent Joint Study Commission on Aging and a Multi-Sector Plan on Aging. The committee will consider this amendment.

2026-H 7191 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Robert D. Phillips (D-Dist. 51, Woonsocket, Cumberland) would allow licensed, certified clinical laboratories to analyze blood samples from children under age 6 for blood lead levels. The committee will consider this amendment.

2026-H 8500 — Sponsored by House Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), this bill promotes fiscal integrity, transparency and accountability in the state’s healthcare system by mandating that certain reporting covered health entities submit quarterly financial reports to the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

2026-H 8579 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Tina L. Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly) would require pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to apply for certificate of authority from the Department of Business Regulation to operate and would empower the state health insurance commissioner to oversee PBMs and penalize violations.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
