Media Advisory: Senate Health, Human Services Committee to vote tomorrow on bills from Senate healthcare package
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will meet tomorrow for votes on six bills from the package of healthcare bills backed by Senate leaders.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, May 14, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House for votes on the following bills:

2026-S 2563 — The Prescription Drug Savings and Transparency Act of 2026, sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), would direct the Auditor General to conduct a study of the performance and cost-effectiveness of the state’s current prescription drug management for the Medicaid Program, including the utilization of Pharmacy Benefits Managers by Medicaid managed care organizations, with a report of findings and recommendations issued to the General Assembly no later than March 31, 2027.

2026-S 3061 —This bill sponsored by Sen. Brian J. Thompson (D-Dist. 20, Woonsocket, Cumberland) would require that beginning Jan. 1, 2027, insurers cover a minimum of seven days of post-acute care without a prior authorization requirement.

2026-S 3063 — Sponsored by Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick), this bill would create a 13-member special legislative commission to study the impact of medical malpractice claims on health care providers and costs, with a report of its findings to be issued no later than Oct. 1, 2027.

2026-S 3056 — This bill sponsored by Senate Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield) would direct the Executive Office of Health and Human Services to facilitate nursing homes and other long-term care facilities receiving an enhanced Medicaid per-diem rate for complex behavioral health patients.

2026-S 3057 — Sponsored by Sen. Pamela J. Lauria (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence), this resolution would create a 17-member special legislative commission whose purpose it would be to study Rhode Island’s healthcare workforce related to educating and retaining primary care providers.

2026-S 3064 — This bill sponsored by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown) would commit initial resources needed for the creation of a medical school at the University of Rhode Island, as recommended earlier this year by a special legislative commission.
