4/13/2026 Media Advisory: Senate Health, Human Services Committee to meet Tuesday, Thursday for hearings on insurance coverage bills
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will meet tomorrow and Thursday for hearings on numerous bills concerning insurance coverage.

The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House, for hearings on several bills including:
  • 2026-S 2032 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Samuel D. Zurier (D-Dist. 3, Providence) would prohibit insurance companies from imposing any cost-sharing requirements for any diagnostic or supplemental breast examination.
  • 2026-S 2455 — Sponsored by Sen. Matthew L. LaMountain (D-Dist. 31, Warwick, Cranston), this bill mandates insurance coverage for scalp-cooling treatments for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy to prevent hair loss.
  • 2026-S 2877 — This bill sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield) would cap the amount payable for 30-day supply of equipment or supplies for insulin administration or glucose monitoring at $25 or equipment designed to last more than 30 days with no deductible.
The committee meets again Thursday, April 16, at the rise of the Senate session in the Senate Lounge for hearings on numerous bills including:
  • 2026-S 2108 — Sponsored by Sen. Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence), this bill would prohibit insurance companies from paying a rate that is less than the approved Medicaid rate set by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
  • 2026-S 2573 — Sponsored by Sen. Samuel W. Bell (D-Dist. 5, Providence), this bill would establish a universal, comprehensive, affordable single-payer health care insurance program and help control health care costs.
  • 2026-S 2687 — Sponsored by Sen. Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham), this bill would require health insurers to comply with federal mental health parity laws, prevent discriminatory treatment limits and ensure meaningful mental health and substance use coverage in all benefit classifications.
Both meetings will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34. Written testimony may be emailed to  SLegislation@rilegislature.gov and must be submitted prior to 3 p.m. the day of the applicable hearing in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
