Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee to vote on several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets tomorrow for votes on three bills and hearings on several others.
The committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, April 14, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on:

2026-H 7030 — The Healthcare Worker Platform Act, sponsored by Rep. Evan P. Shanley (D-Dist. 24, Warwick, East Greenwich), would require platforms offering health care shifts to register with the Rhode Island Department of Health while exempting them from being classified as nursing service agencies. The committee will consider this proposed amendment.

2026-H 7926 — Sponsored by Sen. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol) on behalf of the Department of Health, this bill removes obsolete language and clarifies asbestos abatement and radon control requirements.

2026-S 2116A — This bill sponsored by Sen. Lori Uso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) would enable nurses to provide routine foot care in patients’ homes, provided they get proper training and demonstrate clinical competency. It passed the Senate last week.

2026-H 7076 — Sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennet (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston), this bill would allow for Department of Health licensing for certified surgical first assistants to assist in surgeries.

2026-H 7273 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Marie Hopkins (R-Dist. 21, Warwick), requires the state to implement the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact no later than July 1, 2026.

2026-H 8383 — Sponsored by Rep. Tina L. Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly) on behalf of Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, this bill establishes a state-run prescription drug purchasing pool, available for participation by nonstate public employers, private employers and health insurance carriers, to maximize the value of drug discounts available to participants.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channels 15 and 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
