Media Advisory: Senate Health, Human Services Committee to meet Tuesday, Thursday for hearings
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Health and Human Services Committee will meet tomorrow and Thursday for hearings on numerous bills concerning insurance coverage and health care facilities.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House, for hearings on several bills including:

2026-S 2567 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) would establish a universal and unified health care system and reform the current payment system for health care coverage.

2026-S 2686 — Sponsored by Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick), this bill establishes the Office of the Elder Advocate to promote the rights of older adults in Rhode Island.

2026-S 2889 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Matthew L. LaMountain (D-Dist. 31, Warwick) would prohibit the transmission or reporting of prescriptions for testosterone within the prescription drug monitoring database and remove from the records all existing information concerning prior testosterone prescriptions.
The committee meets again Thursday, April 9, at the rise of the Senate session in Room 211 for hearings on numerous bills including:

2026-S 2890 — Sponsored by Sen. Lori Urso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket), this bill would require that insurance cover medically necessary hormonal and nonhormonal therapy to treat menopausal symptoms if the therapy is recommended by a qualified health, licensed care provider licensed and has been proven safe and effective.

2026-S 2109 — Also sponsored by Senator Urso, this bill would prohibit health benefit plans reviewing prescriptions for opioid addiction treatment.

2026-S 2853 — Sponsored by Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), this bill requires hospital emergency rooms and free-standing emergency care facilities to offer and provide pregnancy prevention medication to victims of sexual assault.
Both meetings will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34.
