Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee meets Thursday
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets Thursday for hearings on a number of bills, including some concerning dementia and nursing facilities, and a vote on one bill updating the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, March 19, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is slated to vote on:

2026-H 7923 — Sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence) at the request of the Department of Health, this bill revises sections of the Uniform Controlled Substances Act to remove specific opioid dosage requirements and make revisions in accordance with current standards of professional practice.
The committee will then hold hearings on numerous bills, including:

2026-H 7542 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter) would create the position of dementia services coordinator within the Department of Health to coordinate the department’s approach to Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

2026-H 7624 — Sponsored by House Health and Human Services Committee Chairwoman Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), this bill would require annual inspections of assisted living residences with units licensed to treat residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

2026-H 7951 — This resolution sponsored by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket) would create a 17-member legislative commission to study women’s reproductive health across the life course.
