3/16/2026 Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear bills to raise minimum wage
STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday for hearings on several bills to raise minimum wage, as well as other bills concerning wages and employment.

The meeting is scheduled Wednesday, March 18, at 4 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House.

Among the bills scheduled to be heard are:
  • 2026-H 7769 — Sponsored by Rep. Jenni A. Furtado (D-Dist. 64, East Providence, Pawtucket), this bill would set the state minimum wage at $20 per hour beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
  • 2026-H 7770 — This bill sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston) would increase the minimum hourly wage beginning Jan. 1, 2029, by an amount equal to the total percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for all Urban Consumers (CPI-U) for the Northeast Region for the calendar year 2027.
  • 2026-H 7771 — Sponsored by Rep. Enrique George Sanchez (D-Dist. 9, Providence), this bill would increase the minimum wage to $24 per hour beginning Jan. 1, 2027.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

Testimony on the bills being heard will be accepted in person or in writing via email to HouseLabor@rilegislature.gov. Written testimony must include a name and any applicable organization, the bill number(s) and viewpoint (for/against/neither). It will be considered a public document.
