Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear bills on unemployment, caregiver leave and commuter benefits

STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday for hearings on several pieces of legislation, including one to expand temporary caregiver insurance,
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, March 5, at the rise of the House (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills scheduled to be heard are:

2026-H 7968 — Sponsored by Rep. Joshua J. Giraldo (D-Dist. 56, Central Falls), this bill would expand temporary caregiver insurance to include a grandchild and care recipient, increase the benefit to 10 weeks for 2027 and 12 weeks for 2028 and allow self-employed workers to opt in to the TDI/TCI program.

2026-H 7561 — Sponsored by Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls), this bill would prohibit employers from requiring an employee to use vacation, sick or personal time or other paid time off as a condition of eligibility for, or receipt of temporary caregiver insurance, but would allow an employee to elect to do so.

2026-H 7363 — Sponsored by Rep. Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence), this bill would require employers with 500 or more employees to establish a pre-tax commuter transportation fringe benefit program.
