Media Advisory: House Health, Human Services Committee to vote on bill for expedited hospital conversions review

Legislation proposed to aid Fatima, Roger Williams hospitals sale if Centurion deal falls through
STATE HOUSE – The House Health and Human Services Committee meets twice tomorrow, first to vote on legislation aimed related to protecting Roger Williams Medical Center and Fatima Hospital, and later for hearings on other bills.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House to vote on:

2026-H 7407 — Sponsored by Rep. Jacquelyn Baginski (D-Dist. 17, Cranston) with the backing of the Gov. Dan McKee and Attorney General Peter F. Neronha, this bill would amend the Hospital Conversions Act to provide a one-year authorization for expedited review of an application for hospital insolvency proceedings. The bill would allow for an expedited review should Centurion Foundation fail to close its deal to purchase Fatima Hospital and Roger Williams Medical Center and an alternative purchaser is identified (Click here for more information.)
The committee will meet again at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House for hearings on several bills, including:

2026-H 7029 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Boylan (D-Dist. 66, Barrington, East Providence) would allow nurses to provide routine foot care, such as maintenance of toenails, common corns and calluses, in patients’ homes, provided they get proper training and demonstrate clinical competency.

2026-H 7347 — Sponsored by Sen. Michelle McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), limits prior authorization requirements for rehabilitative and habilitative services, prohibiting prior authorization for the first 12 visits of a new episode of care and for 90 days following a chronic pain diagnosis.

2026-H 7428 — This bill sponsored by Joshua J. Giraldo (D-Dist. 56, Central Falls) would eliminate a provision that requires applicants for jobs at licensed day care provider to pay for their background checks.
