3/13/2023 Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear workers’ rights bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee will meet Wednesday for hearings on numerous bills concerning workers.

The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, March 15, at 5 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House.

Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:
  • 2023-H 5447 — Sponsored by Rep. Grace Diaz (D-Dist. 11, Providence), this bill would increase the taxable wage base upon which employees make contributions to the Temporary Disability Insurance and Temporary Caregiver Insurance funds, increase individual benefit rates for lower wage individuals, and allow self-employed workers to participate.
  • 2023-H 5929 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett) forbids employers from requiring employees to execute nondisclosure or nondisparagement agreements regarding alleged violations of civil rights or criminal conduct as a condition of employment.
  • 2023-H 6080 — Sponsored by Rep. Sherry Roberts (R-Dist. 29, West Greenwich, Coventry), this bill prohibits private employers from mandating a COVID-19 vaccination for full-time, part-time, or contract employees without providing individual exemptions that allow an employee to opt out.
