MEDIA ADVISORY: House Education Committee to hear legislation on school mental health services, class size
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Education Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday to hear legislation related to mental health services in schools and class size.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
The committee will hear testimony on the following bills:
§ (2023-H 5010) — this bill, introduced by Rep. Joseph M. McNamara (D-Dist. 19, Warwick, Cranston), would require that services provided by school social workers and certified school psychologists be included as health care related services eligible for federal Medicaid reimbursement.
§ (2023-H 5085) — this bill, introduced by Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown, would mandate 20 students per classroom for kindergarten through second grade. Exceptions for emergencies and temporary situations, not to exceed three days and mid-year enrollments.
§ (2023-H 5168) — this bill, introduced by Representative McNamara, would revise the course requirements for the fast-track principal certification program.
§ (2023-H 5222) — this bill, introduced by Rep. Julie Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter), would provide that in the event of the death of an educator or a student, a local educational agency be given up to five days after the death to implement a flexible school schedule for teachers and students.
The House Committee on Education is chaired by Representative McNamara.
