1/22/2019 Media Advisory: Elderly Abuse and Financial Exploitation Task Force to meet with experts
STATE HOUSE – The Special Task Force to Study Elderly Abuse and Financial Exploitation will meet tomorrow with experts on elder abuse and exploitation.

The task force will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 23, from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House.

On the agenda are presentations from Dr. Lidia Vognar, an assistant professor of geriatric medicine at Brown University; Mary Ladd, chief of program development at the Rhode Island Division of Elderly Affairs, who is also a member of the special task force; and Special Assistant Attorney General Molly Kapstein Cote, who is also a task force member. No public comments will be taken at this meeting.

The task force, led by Sen. Cynthia A. Coyne (D-Dist. 32, Barrington, Bristol, East Providence), is studying the prevalence and impact of elder abuse and financial exploitation in Rhode Island and is to make recommendations on policies and legislation to effectively address the issue impacting seniors and other vulnerable adults.

Members of the task force include Senator Coyne; Senator Sandra Cano (D-Dist.8, Pawtucket); Lt. Gov. Daniel J. McKee; Special Assistant Attorney General Kapstein Cote; Ladd of the Division of Elderly Affairs; AARP- Rhode Island Associate State Director John DiTomasso; State Police Detective Kyle Shibley; Warwick attorney Mark Heffner; and Saint Elizabeth Haven for Elder Justice Director Jeanne Gattegno.
