6/19/2018 Sens. Pearson, Paolino support budget providing key support for town of Lincoln
STATE HOUSE — Sen. Ryan W. Pearson (D-Dist. 19, Cumberland, Lincoln) and Sen. Thomas J. Paolino (R-Dist. 17, Lincoln, North Providence, North Smithfield) supported the FY19 budget in their early vote as members of the Senate Finance Committee today. Of the 10-member committee, Lincoln has two senators representing the town’s interests. They issued the following statements:

“This budget is a good deal for the town of Lincoln and I was happy to support securing the additional 14 percent reimbursement now available to the town from the state for the Lincoln High School project,” said Senator Pearson. “School construction has been an important priority for me and while the initial proposal limited Lincoln to only 5 percent of incentive reimbursement, I am happy that we were able to fight and secure the full 14 percent for Lincoln saving local taxpayers up to $8.4 million.”

“On top of the increased reimbursement for Lincoln High School saving taxpayers money this budget also continues to lower the car taxes of Lincoln residents,” said Senator Paolino. “Ensuring our taxes remain low is a top priority of mine and reducing car taxes for my constituents this year by $842,000 is always a good thing. In addition, I am very happy we were able to secure a local share for Lincoln of the new sports gambling revenue at Twin River. Twin River revenues have been key to financing many of Lincoln’s infrastructure projects and keeping the local tax burden down.”

Senator Pearson has served on the Senate Committee on Finance since 2013 currently serving as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Education, Commerce and Municipal Aid. Senator Paolino joined the Senate Finance Committee this year.
