Media Advisory: Constitutional Convention Commission meets Wednesday
|
STATE HOUSE – The bipartisan preparatory constitutional convention commission will be meeting Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Flanagan Campus, 1762 Old Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln. The meeting will take place at The Commons, first floor.
The bi-partisan commission will meet to hear and accept public testimony regarding the commission’s charge to assemble information on constitutional questions for the electors. Testimony should be limited to the benefits and concerns of holding a constitutional convention as well as what topic areas, if any, should be included in the commission’s report as possible issues for consideration at a constitutional convention, if convened. On the Nov. 5 ballot, voters will be asked if a convention should be held.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox Communications, channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3 Broadband (formerly Full Channel) on 15; and Verizon, on channel 34. Livestreaming is available at https://capitoltvri.cablecast.tv/.
Written testimony may be submitted via email to constitutionalconventioncommission@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include a name/organization and the party’s viewpoint; pro, con or neutral. It will become a public record.
