3/28/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Small Business Committee meets on April 3 to hear from small businesses affected by Washington Bridge closure
STATE HOUSE – The House Small Business Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. in Room 101 of the State House to hear from small businesses that have been negatively impacted by the closure of the westbound portion of the Washington Bridge.
The committee is chaired by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett).  House Majority Whip Katherine S. Kazarian (D-Dist. 63, East Providence, Pawtucket) has been working with Chairwoman McEntee and the other East Bay legislators to set up the meeting.
“Our state’s small businesses, particularly in the East Bay and in Providence, have been devastated by the bridge closure. We put this meeting together for our stressed small businesses so they can detail their first-hand experiences of how the bridge closure is impacting their daily lives while also gathering crucial information on how the House can support these frustrated and struggling small businesses,” said Chairwoman McEntee.
“The closure of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge has created far too much frustration, anxiety and loss of business for the small businesses of East Providence and the East Bay.  While we now know that the bridge will need to be replaced, the uncertainty of how this will affect our communities over the next couple of years remains a great point of unease and concern for so many small businesses and customers.  This meeting will be an opportunity for our small businesses to elevate their voices on a statewide level and to accurately describe what the bridge closure has done to their businesses and livelihoods,” said Whip Kazarian.
Both Chairwoman McEntee and Whip Kazarian are also encouraging small businesses to submit written testimony if they are unable to attend the meeting.  Written testimony can be sent here:
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at
