10/29/2021 MEDIA ADVISORY: Redistricting Commission to meet in Bristol County; State House meeting to focus on prisons
STATE HOUSE — The Special Commission on Reapportionment will meet Monday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Kickemuit Middle School, 525 Child St. in Warren.

The commission has also scheduled a meeting at the State House to discuss the counting of prison inmates for reapportionment. That meeting will convene on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in Room 313 of the State House.

The Nov. 8 meeting is the sixth one scheduled at various sites around the state to gain the input of Rhode Islanders on the redistricting process. The state constitution calls for the General Assembly to reapportion its districts as well as the two congressional districts after each 10-year federal census.

In addition to an overview of the redistricting process, statewide census data and legislative seat distribution, the commission is expected to hear an in-depth review of census data for Bristol County. There will also be a demonstration of the riredistricting.org website.

Masks are required inside the middle school.

The commission is co-chaired by Sen. Stephen R. Archambault (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Providence, Johnston) and Rep. Robert D. Phillips (D-Dist. 51, Woonsocket, Cumberland).

All meetings will air live on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox Channels 15 and 61, on Full Channel on Channel 15 and on Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers. The meetings will also be live streamed at http://rilegislature.gov/CapTV/Pages/default.aspx.
