8/3/2017 Paolino opposes proposed National Grid rate hike
STATE HOUSE – Senator Thomas J. Paolino, (R-Dist. 17, Lincoln, North Providence, North Smithfield), said today that National Grid’s proposed 53 percent rate increase will place an unsustainable burden on Rhode Island residents.

“Where are people supposed to get all this extra money to pay their electric bills?” Paolino asked.  “Asking for a rate increase of this size is just irresponsible.”

Paolino said he has spoken to a number of constituents who have told them they won’t be able to pay their electric bills if the rate increase is granted.  Further, he said such a rate increase will hurt the state’s small businesses.

“People who run small businesses count utility costs as one of their largest expenses,” Paolino said. “This is just another thing that makes Rhode Island a less attractive place to do business.”
