Media Advisory: Housing Affordability commission to meet Thursday

Commission will hear presentations on public developer program, statewide housing plan
STATE HOUSE – The Special Legislative Commission to Study Housing Affordability will meet Thursday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in Room 35 on basement level of the State House.
The agenda for the meeting includes a presentation by Matthew Murphy of the New York University Furman Center on the center’s report on a public developer program. Interim Housing Secretary Daniel Connors will give the commission a presentation of Rhode Island’s Statewide Housing Plan, followed by a review of his department’s administration of funding.
No public testimony will be taken at this meeting.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
The commission, led by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), is studying barriers to affordable housing creation and identifying ways to help cities and towns meet their obligations under the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act to ensure that at least 10 percent of their housing stock qualifies as affordable.
