Sen. Mack honored as RI Food Policy Council’s 2024 “Food Policy Changemakers”
|
 STATE HOUSE – The RI Food Policy Council (RIFPC) has recognized Sen. Tiara Mack as a “2024 Food Policy Changemaker.” Senator Mack was honored at the Providence Public Library as part of the organization’s annual policy retreat on Sept. 9.
Senator Mack was recognized for being a committed champion over the last two legislative sessions while advocating for tax relief for urban and small farmers and building new bridges and collaboration between urban and rural farmers. She has also been engaged in the statewide emergency food planning process, and regularly attends and supports RIFPC events like the Policy for the People virtual learning series, work group meetings, and Good Food Policy Day at the State House.
“I am humbled to receive this award from the dedicated individuals of the RI Food Policy Council. The work that they do with urban farmers to ensure Rhode Islanders are properly fed and that our food system remains healthy, sustainable and accessible is crucial to the well-being of the state. Urban farmers are an increasingly important part of our climate resiliency in the years ahead as the need to grow more local and sustainable food increases, and I look forward to continue working with them to further their noble and necessary mission,” said Senator Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence).
“The Rhode Island Food Policy Council commends Senator Tiara Mack for being a committed champion for Rhode Island's urban and small farmers. These farmers provide fresh, culturally relevant food to members of their communities, contributing to food security while building economically viable businesses.
