MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets tomorrow for several votes
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet tomorrow, Thursday, June 6 at the rise of the House (approximately 6 p.m.) in the House Lounge to vote on several bills.
The following pieces of legislation are scheduled for a vote:

2024-H 7646, 2024-S 3044, sponsored by Rep. Alex D. Marszalkowski (D-Dist. 52, Cumberland) and Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston), amends the definition of “authorized representative” in the Confidentiality of Health Care Communications/Information Act and provides that an authorized representative may include any heir-at-law when the patient is deceased/the personal representative is absent.

2024-H 7741, sponsored by Rep. Evan P. Shanley (D-Dist. 24, Warwick, East Greenwich), criminalizes the filing of a false lien, instrument, or encumbrance against a federal, state, or municipal judge or magistrate or his or her immediate family, and permits the court to act to mitigate the negative consequences of such a filing.

2024-H 7976A, sponsored by House Judiciary Chairman Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown), updates the process by which the Supreme Court reports, holds, and escheats unclaimed property in the court registries.

2024-H 8324, sponsored by Chairman Craven, would provide for a 12-member bipartisan commission to assemble information on constitutional questions in preparation for a vote by electors on holding a constitutional convention, and who would report back by September 1, 2024.

2024-H 8326, sponsored by Chairman Craven, would provide for the presentation of the following question at the next general election, “Shall there be a convention to amend or revise the Constitution?”

2024-H 8325, sponsored by Majority Leader Christopher R. Blazejewski (D-Dist. 2, Providence), makes technical amendments to the General Laws prepared at the recommendation of the Law Revision Office.
