5/28/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets today for several votes
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet today, Tuesday, May 28 at the rise of the House (approximately 5:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge to vote on the following bills:
  • 2024-H 7304A, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket), requires landlords of residential properties to give tenants notice of rent increases at least 90 days prior to the increase and requires notice requirement for rent increases for month to month tenants who are over the age of 62 years, to 120 days.
  • 2024-H 7376A, sponsored by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown), requires written acknowledgment from any buyer of oceanfront or shoreline property that they have been informed of the public's rights and privileges of the shore.
  • 2024-H 7578A, sponsored by Rep. Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence), allows members of the Rhode Island Judiciary and their staff to be issued a driver's license that contains the applicant's official business address in lieu of a residence address.
  • 2024-H 7798, sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence), makes it a misdemeanor to harass another person by following them and using an electronic device to record their movements in any public or private place.
  • 2024-H 7972, sponsored by Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown), expands the crime of false reporting to include shootings or other dangerous events.
