MEDIA ADVISORY: RIBLIA Caucus to hold news conference today to highlight floor amendment to LEOBOR reform bill
|
STATE HOUSE – The Rhode Island Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian-American and Pacific Islander Caucus (RIBLIA) will hold a news conference today, Thursday, May 9 at 3:15 p.m. in Room 313 at the State House to unveil a proposed floor amendment to the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights reform legislation (2024-H 7263A, 2024-S 2096A) that is scheduled for a vote in the House of Representatives today.
The caucus is chaired by Sen. Jonathon Acosta (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket) and Rep. Leonela Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket).
“Our floor amendment is essentially a ‘George Floyd litmus test’ for unjust use of deadly force and we feel that this amendment will only add to the accountability that the public deserves under the proposed LEOBOR reform legislation,” said RIBLIA Caucus Chairs Acosta and Felix.
