2/12/2024 Media Advisory: Housing Affordability commission to meet Thursday
STATE HOUSE – The Special Legislative Commission to Study Housing Affordability will meet Thursday, Feb. 15, at 2 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.

The agenda for the meeting includes a presentation by Housing Secretary Stefan Pryor, who is a member of the commission, on state and local fiscal recovery funds, and updates on Furman’s feasibility study and the Abt Associates project to draft a statewide housing plan.

There will also be a presentation by several Providence officials: Deputy Legislative Liaison Michael Napolitano, Director of Housing and Human Services Emily Freedman and Tax Assessor Janesse Muscatelli. This will include a discussion of the city’s proposal regarding its “8-Law,” which provides a tax incentive for development of low-income housing.

No public testimony will be taken at this meeting.

The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

The commission, led by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol), is studying barriers to affordable housing creation and identifying ways to help cities and towns meet their obligations under the Low and Moderate Income Housing Act to ensure that at least 10 percent of their housing stock qualifies as affordable.
