4/3/2023 MEDIA ADVISORY: Cano, Morales, Felix to hold press conference supporting multilingual learning

STATE HOUSE – Sen. Sandra Cano, Rep. David Morales and Rep. Leonela Felix will be joined tomorrow by the Coalition for a Multilingual RI for the Multilingual Education Advocacy Day.

There will be educational booths from multilingual organizations and programs on the 2nd floor of the State House from 2-5 p.m. tomorrow, April 4.

A press conference advocating more investments in multilingual learning will take place at 3 p.m. in the State House Library on the second floor of the State House.

The Coalition for a Multilingual RI is a coalition of 26 organizations and many individual community members dedicated to creating a culturally sustaining public education system where all Rhode Island students have access to high-quality dual language and world language programs and the opportunity to learn in multiple languages from Pre-K to college.

Legislators and the coalition will be advocating passage of two bills. The first, the Access to Bilingual Education Act (2023-S 0549, 2023-H 5777), is sponsored by Representative Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket) and the second, the Multilingual Educators Investment Act (2023-S 0559, 2023-H 6023) is sponsored by Representative Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence). Both bills are sponsored in the Senate by Senator Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket), who serves as chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Education.
