8/9/2017 Rep. Carson named Champion for Seniors by Edward King House
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Lauren H. Carson has been honored by the Edward King House with its annual Champion for Seniors award for her commitment to serving local senior citizens.

Carmella Geer, Edward King House executive director, said Representative Carson’s name came up immediately this year when the senior center’s Board of Directors began discussing nominations for the award. Geer said Representative Carson goes “above and beyond” to reach and respond to constituents, and that members also appreciate her support of efforts that benefit senior citizens.

“Since taking office, Representative Carson has been a stalwart advocate for the senior citizens of Newport and of the state of Rhode Island at large. Her door-to-door approach of reaching out to her constituents keeps her connected to the voice of our senior citizenry. She takes their concerns and investigates the issues until she has a firm grasp on the need and works tirelessly to bring forth an agenda that supports safety and independence for today’s older adults. We appreciate her hard work and felt that her efforts should be celebrated and supported,” said Geer.

Representative Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport) was honored at the senior center’s annual meeting and awards ceremony June 29 at the Atlantic Resort in Middletown.
