STATE HOUSE — Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston) has reappointed Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket) to serve as a deputy majority leader in the House of Representatives for the 2017-18 legislative session.
“I am honored and humbled that Speaker Mattiello would once again give me this position of trust on the leadership team,” said Representative Casey. “We have a lot of important issues to tackle in the upcoming session, such as the phasing out of the car tax, along with other promising proposals. I look forward to doing my best for the people of Woonsocket and the people of Rhode Island.”
In addition, Representative Casey was appointed second vice chairman of the House Labor Committee, and as a member of the House Corporations and Veterans’ Affairs committees.
The House Labor Committee deliberates legislation relating to workers’ compensation and labor laws. The Committee on Corporations considers issues relating to financial institutions, business regulation, property and casualty insurance and consumer protection. The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs handles all legislation impacting the lives of Rhode Island veterans and those currently in military service.
Representative Casey was first elected as a state representative in November 2012.
