MEDIA ADVISORY: House Municipal Government Committee to hear planning board, local tax legislation
STATE HOUSE — A meeting of the House Municipal Government Committee — the first to be led by its new chairwoman, Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown) — will meet Thursday to hear testimony on bills regarding local government.
The committee is scheduled to meet
Thursday, Jan. 19, at the rise of the House (about 4:30 p.m.) in Room 203
on the second floor of the State House.
The committee will hearing testimony on bills, including the following:
— This bill, sponsored by Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport), would require that members of local planning boards and commissions receive two hours of training on issues related to development in flood plains and the effects of sea level rise once every two years.
— This bill, sponsored by Rep. Mia Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln), would permit cities and towns to apply the unused excise tax exemption afforded a qualifying veteran or gold star parent on the tax paid on a leased vehicle.
