10/24/2016 Mattiello announces repaving of Oaklawn Ave. Railroad Bridge
STATE HOUSE – House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello announced today that the Department of Transportation has agreed to fix the pavement on and around the Oaklawn Avenue Railroad Bridge that carries Oaklawn Avenue over the Washington Secondary Bike Path in Cranston.

Speaker Mattiello, whose District 15 in Cranston includes the bridge, contacted the DOT about its deteriorated condition and met at the site last week with DOT officials to discuss his concerns.

“I’ve heard from a number of constituents about the state of this bridge, and I share their concerns. I’m pleased that the Department of Transportation has agreed to repave it and that it has plans to replace it altogether in the future,” said Speaker Mattiello. “Making our roads and bridges safe and strong has been a priority for me, both across the state and closer to home. I look forward to seeing the improvements ahead for this bridge.”

According to DOT, the repaving project for about 150 feet of pavement and bridge surface will be put out to bid soon, with the hope of completing the work before the end of this construction season.

The repavement is an interim measure until the bridge’s scheduled replacement, which is slated to begin design in 2025 under DOT’s 10-year plan.
