1/10/2023 Sen. McKenney to chair Senate Rules, Government Oversight & Ethics Committee
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Mark P. McKenney will serve as chairman of the Senate Committee on Rules, Government Oversight & Ethics for the 2023-2024 legislative session, Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio has announced.

Sen. McKenney, a Democrat who represents District 30 in Warwick, first served in the Senate from 2019-20 and was again elected in November 2022. During his first term, he served as secretary of the Committee on Rules, Government Ethics & Oversight, as well as a member of both the Senate Committee on Judiciary and the Senate Committee on Special Legislation & Veterans’ Affairs. He is an attorney and small business owner.

“I want to thank President Ruggerio for selecting me to lead this important committee. Ensuring our government is responsive to the demands of a changing world, equipped to meet modern challenges, and living up to its obligations to the people of Rhode Island is a great responsibility, but it is essential in preserving the integrity of our system and the trust of the public. Chairman DiPalma led this committee with great distinction, and I look forward to the important work ahead of us,” Sen. McKenney said.

“Mark McKenney’s extensive experience, collaborative spirit, and commitment to serving the public make him an outstanding legislator, and I was very pleased to welcome him back to the Senate. The work of the Oversight Committee can be difficult, but it is extremely important for our chamber and our state. Sen. McKenney has the background and skills needed to lead this committee and will be an excellent chairman,” President Ruggerio said.
