1/10/2023 Sen. DiMario to chair Senate Environment & Agriculture Committee
STATE HOUSE – Sen. Alana M. DiMario will serve as chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture for the 2023-2024 legislative session, Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio has announced.

Sen. DiMario, a Democrat who represents District 36 in North Kingstown, Narragansett, and New Shoreham, has served in the Senate since 2021. During the 2021-22 session, she served as vice chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Environment & Agriculture, a member of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services, and co-chair of the Permanent Joint Legislative Commission on Child Care.

A Narragansett resident, Sen. DiMario is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice. In the Senate, she has advanced legislation related to Rhode Island’s mental and behavioral health care system, early childhood care and education, voting rights, the state’s tourism and hospitality industries, and environmental protection.

“It is an honor to be selected as the next chair of the Committee on Environment & Agriculture, and I want to thank President Ruggerio for entrusting me with this role. Under the leadership of Chairwoman Euer, the committee has done vitally important work in the past two years, and I look forward to building on that progress because continued climate action is urgent – especially for the coastal communities I represent. Together, in the session ahead, my colleagues and I will keep working tirelessly toward a more sustainable and resilient future for our state,” Sen. DiMario said.

“During her time in the Senate, Alana DiMario has been a powerful advocate, highly effective legislator, and an invaluable resource. She has earned the admiration of her colleagues – myself included – through her expertise, dedication, and leadership. I’m proud that the Senate has been a leader when it comes to climate and the environment, and Senator DiMario is exceptionally well suited to keep us on the forefront of these issues,” President Ruggerio said.
