Rep. Cortvriend takes part in environmental, regional leaders’ forums
|
 STATE HOUSE – Rep. Terri Cortvriend joined over 100 other state legislators from 35 states July 29 and 30 for the 2022 National Forum in Denver, Colo., organized by the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators. The event provided state lawmakers the opportunity to collaborate on policy solutions related to climate, energy, conservation and environmental health.
Representative Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) has been a strong proponent of addressing climate change and protecting the environment, and leads the Aquidneck Island Climate Caucus with Rep. Lauren H. Carson (D-Dist. 75, Newport).
“It was a rewarding experience to spend time with legislators and advocates all committed to improving the health and wellness of our planet and all its residents,” said Representative Cortvriend.
The forum session topics included biodiversity protection, offshore wind, toxic chemicals, pesticide alternatives, sustainable transportation and state collaboration with native tribes. Legislators heard from experts such as the National Wildlife Federation, Defenders of Wildlife, and Energy Policy Institute as well as fellow lawmakers.
This week, Representative Cortvriend travels to Manchester, N.H., for the Council of State Governments East annual and regional policy forum, scheduled Sunday through Wednesday.
That event consists of three days of discussions among peers in government at the largest gathering of state officials in the East. Leaders will meet to discuss critical issues affecting the region in the areas of agriculture and rural affairs, Canada-U.S. relations, education and workforce development, energy and environment, fiscal affairs, military and veterans’ affairs, territorial relations and transportation.
Representative Cortvriend paid her own travel expenses for both conferences.
