2/1/2019 Senate passes Morgan resolution designating January as ‘Rhode Island Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month’
STATE HOUSE – The Rhode Island Senate passed a resolution (2019-S 0100) sponsored by Sen. Elaine J. Morgan that commemorates January of 2019 as “Rhode Island Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month” in Rhode Island.

“Human trafficking is one of the most vile and evil crimes within our world today and we must do everything in our power to raise awareness of the ever-present threat that human trafficking poses to every single community in Rhode Island.  President Trump has made great strides in combating this insidious evil and I am proud to support his efforts here in Rhode Island to help fight, and hopefully prevent, these terrible crimes,” said Senator Morgan (R-Dist. 34, Hopkinton, Charlestown, Exeter, Richmond, West Greenwich).

The resolution states that it is estimated that between 20 million and 37 million people are currently victims of human trafficking and the International Labor Office estimates that human trafficking generates approximately $150.2 billion in profit.

Duly certified copies of the resolution will be sent by Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea to President Donald J. Trump, Governor Gina M. Raimondo, and the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
