MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Wednesday to consider several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet on Wednesday, June 3 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in the House Lounge to consider several bills.
The committee is chaired by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett).
Among the legislation to be considered by the committee are the following bills:

2026-H 7751, sponsored by Rep. Evan P. Shanley (D-Dist. 24, Warwick, East Greenwich), makes litigation loan agreements subject to state usury laws.

2026-H 7763A, sponsored by Rep. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith (D-Dist. 46, Lincoln, Pawtucket), provides that the cost of maintaining and repairing or restoring an easement or right-of-way shall be shared by each owner of a benefited property and their costs shall be determined by and commensurate with the municipal appraisal of each property.

2026-H 8215A, sponsored by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry), allows tenants with disabilities to request to keep an emotional support animal.

2026-H 8069A, sponsored by Rep. Susan R. Donovan (D-Dist. 69, Bristol, Portsmouth), requires shooting ranges to post signs in any area in which shooting occurs that contain the following language: “WARNING: If you or a loved one is experiencing distress and/or depression, call the 988 Suicide and Crisis hotline or text ‘HOME’ to 741741.”

2026-H 8464A, sponsored by Rep. Alex D. Marszalkowski (D-Dist. 52, Cumberland), requires any contractor performing construction or maintenance for RIDOT, RITBA or any other construction on any state roads have in place an attenuator truck/crash truck with an operational camera.
