MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets today to consider several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet today, Tuesday, May 26 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in the House Lounge to consider several bills.
The committee is chaired by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett).
Among the legislation to be considered by the committee are the following bills:

2026-H 7757, sponsored by Rep. Justine Caldwell (D-Dist. 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), gives statewide juvenile hearing boards the authority to refer a juvenile offender to a rehabilitative driving course as part of a disposition of an offense before the board.

2026-H 8058, sponsored by Representative Caldwell, makes it unnecessary to prove that a person's transmission of electronic communications is for the sole purpose of harassment before being found guilty of cyberstalking or cyberharassment.

2026-H 8060A, sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), protects individuals and businesses from those who knowingly impersonate an entity with the intent of facilitating fraud. This act would also protect individuals and businesses from digital forgery.

2026-H 8106 / 2026-S 2644, sponsored by Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket) and Sen. Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), prohibits restrictive covenants related to grocery stores.
