5/26/2026 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Finance Committee meets today to consider municipal bond bills and hear legislation
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will be meeting today, Tuesday, May 26 at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House to consider three municipal bond bills and to hear testimony on a variety of legislation.
           
The committee will consider the following bills:
  • 2026-H 8300, sponsored by Rep. Joshua J. Giraldo (D-Dist. 56, Central Falls), authorizes Central Falls to issue bonds and notes in an amount not exceeding $25,000,000 to finance the construction, renovation, improvement, alteration, repair, furnishing and equipping of schools and school facilities in the city.
  • 2026-H 8488, sponsored by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown), authorizes Portsmouth to issue bonds and notes in an amount not exceeding $41,000,000 to finance construction, additions, renovation, alteration, repair, furnishing and equipping of schools and school facilities throughout the town.
  • 2026-H 8527, sponsored by Rep. Megan L. Cotter (D-Dist. 39, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton), authorizes the Chariho Regional School District to finance the construction, furnishing and equipping of an elementary school and to issue not more than $116,000,000 bonds and/or notes.
The committee will hear testimony on the following bills:
  • 2026-H 8152, sponsored by Rep. Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence), establishes sales and use tax exemptions for commercial forest product operations and creates a new motor vehicle registration for “forestry vehicles.”
  • 2026-H 8532, sponsored by Rep. George Nardone (R-Dist. 28, Coventry), requires 10% of all rental fees collected by the Water Resources Board pursuant to a lease with the Coventry Pines Golf Club to be paid to the town of Coventry and 10% to the Central Coventry Fire District.
  • 2026-H 8581, sponsored by Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket), removes the fiscal year 2026 14% limitation for reduction to the local per-pupil funding for charter schools.
