House passes Rep. Casimiro’s bill to enhance foster care youth academic reporting
|
STATE HOUSE – The House today passed legislation introduced by Rep. Julie A. Casimiro that would expand academic reporting requirements for foster care youth.
“We all know that the academic progress and success of children in foster care significantly trails behind those of other students. This bill will expand the required reporting on our foster care youth’s academics with the hope of uplifting their educational performance and outcomes before it’s too late,” said Representative Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter).
The legislation (2026-H 8362) would expand foster care academic youth reports to include information regarding 504 eligibility, graduation progress and educational advocates. The bill would also require implementation of additional strategies to improve performance and additional progress reports.
The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
