Media Advisory: Senate Housing, Municipal Government Committee to vote on housing bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee will meet Thursday to vote on several bills, including some concerning housing, and to hold hearings on other bills.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, May 21, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills scheduled for votes are:

2026-S 2690 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown) would amend the current law on low-income housing to include moderate-income housing and eliminate the income percentages used to determine qualifications for low- or moderate-income housing.

2026-S 2268 — Sponsored by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence), this bill would allow faith-based organizations to develop affordable and mixed-use housing on land they own as a by-right use, set statewide development standards, limit local barriers and streamline approvals to expand housing supply.

2026-S 2899 — Sponsored by Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick), this bill would amend various sections of the condominium law to enhance transparency and establish a condominium ombudsman.

2026-S 3298 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Tiara T. Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence), this bill would establish procedures that must be followed before an encampment could be removed or relocated.

2026-S 3300 — This bill sponsored by Housing and Municipal Government Committee Chairman Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence) would amend provisions relative to adaptive reuse projects on state-owned property.

2026-S 3303 — Also sponsored by Chairman Bissaillon, this bill would amend the standards and limitations on permitted parking requirements for dwelling units.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34. Any written testimony must be emailed to SLegislation@rilegislature.gov by 3 p.m. Thursday in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records. Testimony will become a public record.
