Media Advisory: Senate AI and Emerging Technologies Committee to vote on bills from Senate healthcare package Thursday

STATE HOUSE — The Senate Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Committee will meet tomorrow to vote on bills related to the use of AI in healthcare from the Senate’s 17-bill package of healthcare legislation.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, May 14, at the rise of the Senate, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on the following bills from the Senate’s healthcare package:

2026-S 2195 — This legislation introduced by Sen. Lori Urso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) would mandate additional safety features for AI companion technology that include addressing suicidal ideation, potential physical harm or financial harm to others expressed by a user. It also requires notification that the AI companion does not have human emotions.

2026-S 2197 — This legislation also introduced by Senator Urso would establish regulations regarding the use of artificial intelligence in mental healthcare treatments.
The Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies considers legislation and matters relating to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their societal, ethical and policy implications.
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. Senate committee hearings may also air on Channel 75 for Cox subscribers. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
