Speaker Blazejewski appoints Fogarty, Marszalkowski, Edwards, Alzate to Leadership Team
|
STATE HOUSE — Speaker Christopher Blazejewski today appointed four veteran House members to his Leadership Team.
Representative Kathleen A. Fogarty has been named First Assistant Speaker, Representative Alex Marszalkowski is the Second Assistant Speaker, Representative John G. Edwards has been appointed Floor Manager, and Representative Karen Alzate is the Deputy Floor Manager.
“These four colleagues are proven, dedicated, and hard-working members of the House who will provide invaluable assistance to both Majority Leader Katherine Kazarian and me moving forward,” said Speaker Blazejewski. “I am pleased to make them an important part of my Leadership Team as we tackle the many challenges facing us on behalf of the people of Rhode Island.”
First Assistant Speaker Fogarty (D-District 35, South Kingstown) is also the chairwoman of the House Rules Committee, the first vice chairwoman of the House Municipal Government and Housing Committee, and a member of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee and the House Health and Human Services Committee. She has been a House member for 12 years.
Second Assistant Speaker Marszalkowski (D-District 52, Cumberland), a House member for 10 years, is the second vice chairman of the House Finance Committee and is the chairman of its Subcommittee on General Government. He is also a member of the House Rules Committee.
Floor Manager Edwards (D-District 70, Tiverton, Portsmouth), a House member for 18 years, returns to the role of Floor Manager and was previously Majority Whip. He is a member of the House Finance Committee, the House Labor Committee, the House Municipal Government and Housing Committee, and the Permanent Joint Committee on State Lottery.
Deputy Floor Manager Alzate (D-District 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls) is the chairwoman of the House Special Legislation Committee, second vice chairwoman of the House Labor Committee, and a member of the House Finance Committee. A House member for eight years, she is also the co-chairwoman of the Rhode Island Black, Latino, Indigenous, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander (RIBLIA) Caucus.
