5/11/2026 Media Advisory: Rep. Morales joins teachers, school board members and advocates to call for investment in RI schools
STATE HOUSE — Rep. David Morales will be joined by the Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals, the Coalition for a Multilingual Rhode Island and members of the Providence School Board at the State House Tuesday to call for the passage of legislation to strengthen Rhode Island schools in the face of potential budget cuts.

The event will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, May 12, at 3 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House.

The group is calling for the passage of two bills sponsored by Representative Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence). The first, the Support and Access to Bilingual Education Act (2026-H 7389), would establish a bilingual education support fund within the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to support dual language education programs in schools. The second (2026-H 8511) would amend the school funding formula to ensure that schools do not lose state aid due to cuts or disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The event will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

The Support and Access to Bilingual Education Act will later be heard Tuesday by the House Finance Committee at the Rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement floor of the State House.
