5/11/2026 Speaker Blazejewski names Danica Iacoi as Chief of Staff and Special Legal Counsel to the Speaker
STATE HOUSE — Speaker Christopher Blazejewski announced today that he has named Danica Dayian Iacoi as his chief of staff and special legal counsel. She is the first woman to serve as chief of staff to any House speaker in the state’s history.

“Danica has done a tremendous job as my chief legal counsel, and I know she will continue to excel in this vital new role,” said Blazejewski. “She has a keen and intuitive understanding of the legislative process and vast experience at several levels of state government that will enable her to be of critical assistance to me. I am so proud to make this history-making appointment.”

Iacoi has been the chief legal counsel to Blazejewski since January 2021 when he became the House Majority Leader. She had previously been the chief legal counsel to former Speaker Nicholas Mattiello.

She worked for three attorneys general, where she served as a prosecutor and ran the Washington County AG’s office. She was also the general counsel to the State Police and the Department of Public Safety. She also worked for the Legislative Council Office for the General Assembly and the Department of Administration in Labor Relations.

Iacoi is a graduate of Providence College, where she received a BA in English Education, and she received her Juris Doctorate degree from New England Law. She also holds a micro-MBA certificate from Providence College’s School of Business.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as the Chief of Staff and Special Legal Counsel to the Speaker and the House. I thank Speaker Blazejewski for having faith and confidence in me to serve in these roles. I have spent my career in state government and believe that my varied background will serve as an asset to the Speaker, members of the House, and our hardworking and wonderful staff.”
