House OKs Cotter bill for Exeter disabled vets tax exemption
|
STATE HOUSE – The House of Representatives today approved legislation sponsored by Rep. Megan L. Cotter to create a $5,000 property tax exemption for veterans in Exeter who have been 100% disabled in the line of duty.
The exemption would be in addition to an existing $5,000 exemption for veterans, so those with a service-related 100% disability would be eligible for exemptions totaling $10,000.
The state legislation is a legal requirement enabling the town to enact the additional exemption. The Exeter Town Council passed a resolution in March seeking the bill.
“I’m honored to be able to contribute in any way to this effort to support veterans who have been disabled while serving our country,” said Representative Cotter (D-Dist. 39, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton). “Our nation and our community are eternally grateful for their service. We can never fully repay them for their sacrifice and suffering on our behalf, but we should do all we can to support and thank them.”
The legislation (2026-H 8295) now goes to the Senate.
