Media Advisory: Senate Housing, Municipal Government Committee meets Thursday for hearings on lead paint bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee will meet Thursday for hearings on several bills concerning lead paint in housing.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, April 30, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills being heard are:

2026-S 2121 — Sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz (R-Dist. 23, North Smithfield, Burrillville, Glocester), this bill provides a safe harbor provision for landlords who are unable to obtain a lead certificate because the state lacks adequate resources to conduct inspections.

2026-S 3093 — Sponsored by Sen. Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), this bill would require renovation projects of pre-1978 buildings to comply with the Lead Poisoning Prevention Act and the Hazardous Substances Right-to-Know Act, require the presence of lead inspector and supervisor and require lead training.

2026-S 2474 — Sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Frank A. Ciccone III (D-Dist. 7, Providence, Johnston), this bill would require landlords of residential properties built before 1978 to register lead hazard mitigation information with the Department of Health and specify that the information would remain private and only accessible by specific entities.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34.
