Media Advisory: Senate Housing, Municipal Government Committee meets Thursday for hearings on housing bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee will meet Thursday for hearings on several bills concerning housing and construction.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, April 16, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills being heard are:

2026-S 3159 — Sponsored by Housing and Municipal Government Committee Chairman Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence), this bill would create a state program and fund to finance adaptive reuse and mixed-use housing projects, require affordable units and labor standards and provide oversight to expand housing until 2035.

2026-S 2260 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) would establish a program for the energy and water benchmarking of large buildings in Rhode Island and a standard for their energy performance.

2026-S 2902 — Also sponsored by Senator Kallman, this bill is aimed at preventing private equity funds from buying up Rhode Island housing by prohibiting a legal entity, other than an individual, that owns more than $25 million in real estate from owning single- or multi-family properties.

2026-H 7662 — Sponsored by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown), this bill authorizes the town of Middletown to adopt a veterans’ property tax exemption.

2026-H 7151 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Alex S. Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown) authorizes Jamestown to expand its tax exemption for seniors.
