4/6/2026 Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet Tuesday
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet tomorrow to hear bills relating to housing density in public drinking water watersheds, low- and moderate- income housing and egress standards for residential construction.

The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled hear several bills, including:
  • 2026-H 8032 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Megan L. Cotter (D-Dist. 39, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton) would eliminate housing density bonuses for public drinking water watersheds and areas classified by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management as important public groundwater resources. It would also ensure that density bonuses not exceed public water, well water or sewer system capacity limits.
  • 2026-H 7778 — This legislation by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 24, Coventry, West Warwick) would amend the current law on low-income housing to include moderate-income housing and eliminate the income percentages used to determine qualifications for low- or moderate-income housing.
  • 2026-H 8018 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett) would require that any new residential construction have a minimum of two means of egress consisting of standard exterior doors.
