Media Advisory: Senate AI and Emerging Technologies Committee to hear bills Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Committee will meet tomorrow to hear bills related to minors using social media, digital keys and blockchain and cryptocurrency technology.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear the following bills:

2026-S 2968 — This legislation introduced by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton) would create the Rhode Island Social Media Regulation Act, which would not permit a Rhode Island resident who is a minor to be an account holder on a social media platform unless the minor has the express consent of a parent or guardian.

2026-S 2196 — This legislation also introduced by Senator DiPalma would prohibit the compelled production of a private key as it relates to a digital asset, digital identity or other interest or right.

2026-S 2198 — This legislation also introduced by Senator DiPalma would create a five-member commission to recommend legislative proposals for blockchain and cryptocurrency.
The Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies considers legislation and matters relating to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their societal, ethical and policy implications.
The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. Senate committee hearings may also air on Channel 75 for Cox subscribers. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
