Media Advisory: Housing bills to be heard in Senate Thursday
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee will meet Thursday for hearings on numerous bills concerning housing, several of which concern condominiums.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, April 2, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills being heard are:

2026-S 2272 — Sponsored by Sen. Tiara T. Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence), this bill requires that municipalities with populations of over 40,000 allow and adopt zoning regulations for middle housing within single-family housing regulations.

2026-S 2274 — This bill sponsored Sen. Andrew R. Dimitri (D-Dist. 25, Johnston) defines “substantial multifamily housing projects” as those with more than 60 units in municipalities of 40,000 or fewer residents and establishes requirements for them within the state’s low- and moderate-income housing law.

2026-S 2906 — Sponsored by Sen. Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich, South Kingstown) this resolution creates a 16-member commission to study current condominium law and provide recommendations for improvements. It is one of several bills concerning condominiums on the committee’s agenda for hearings.

2026-H 7661 — Sponsored by Rep. Michelle McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton), this bill enables the town of Portsmouth to adopt, repeal or modify its tax classification plan for any tax year on and after Dec. 31, 2026.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34.
