Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet tomorrow to vote on a bill regarding the audits of municipal pension plans and to hear bills relating to affordable and mixed used housing development, an employment program for the homeless and the distribution of tax revenue between municipalities.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled hear several bills, including:

2026-H 7445 — This legislation introduced by Rep. June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol) would allow faith-based organizations to develop affordable and mixed-use housing on land they own as a by-right use, set statewide development standards, limit local barriers and streamline approvals to expand housing supply.

2026-H 8220 — This legislation by Rep. Earl A. Read III (D-Dist. 26, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick) would create a state-run pilot program that provides paid, low-barrier employment to individuals experiencing homelessness for community beautification and cleanup projects while connecting participants to supportive services.

2026-H 7149 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Mary Duffy Messier (D-Dist. 62, Pawtucket) would require that the tax imposed upon the conveyance of any real property that is located in more than one municipality to be allocated between or among the municipalities in proportions to the assessed value of the property located in each municipality.

2026-H 7369 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Leonela Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket) would amend the audit compliance requirements for municipalities’ contributions to pension plans.
