Media Advisory: Housing bills to be heard in Senate
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee will meet Thursday for hearings on numerous bills concerning housing.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, March 26, at the rise of the Senate (sometime after 4:30 pm.) session in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills being heard are:

2026-S 0235 — Sponsored by Sen. Brian J. Thompson (D-Dist. 20, Woonsocket, Cumberland), this bill would require that accessory dwelling units be allowed by right only if the property has been owner-occupied for at least five years.

2026-S 2264 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Tiara T. Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) would provide for warming and cooling center alerts to trigger certain procedures municipalities that shall follow during extreme heat or cold to help at-risk individuals with resources including, but not limited to, warming and cooling centers.

2026-S 2423 — Sponsored by Sen. Robert Britto (D-Dist. 18, East Providence, Pawtucket), this bill would require the state building commissioner to implement electronic permitting for any category of state or local permit authorized under state law to significantly impact the expediency of construction and development.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34. Any written testimony must be emailed to SLegislation@rilegislature.gov by 3 p.m. Thursday in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records. Testimony will become a public record.
